Temporary Office Hours + Personal Update

For those of you who haven't heard, Jon and Chuck were in a car accident in early March. We're both okay, but Chuck will be out of commission for the next couple of months and Jon will be working on a reduced schedule.
As such, Valley Video Services will be temporarily reducing our office hours to 10 AM - 6 PM Monday through Wednesday and 10 AM - 3 PM Thursday until further notice. Please feel free to email us anytime at info@ValleyVideoServices.com.

From Boy's Life Poster Shoot

The VVS crew was lucky enough to get involved with the Eastern Oregon University production of Howard Kroder's Boy's Life and we had a great experience.
Director Brian Wallis wanted to mix live theater with pre-filmed sequences that gave new insights into the characters in the play. We got the chance to experiment with some new filming styles and had a great time working with all the actors involved. To top it off we also got to do the poster for the show.
Bravo to everyone involved -- I thought the show was challenging and funny in all the right ways. Click here to view more from the poster shoot.

La Grande Summer Film Project

Hungry filmmakers have descended upon La Grande to participate in The La Grande Summer Film Project.
Four teams have five days to make a 10-15 minute short film before their premiere 10:30 Friday night at the Crossing the Blues festival in downtown La Grande's Max Square.
After a successful meeting on Saturday the teams have been assembled and the filmmakers have taken to the streets. The filmmakers will be blogging each day so check them out at The Production Blog to get up to date behind-the-scenes information.
Valley Video Services is a proud sponsor of the project, providing equipment and expertise throughout the week, and Chuck and our intern Jason have both signed on as participants. Good luck to all!

A Midsummer Night's Dream

VVS's own Chuck Peters is directing 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' with the EOU Theater Department and our wholly unbiased opinion is that you should go see it now! Congratulations to the cast and crew for all their hard work.
The production opens August 13-16 at 8 p.m. in Schwarz Theatre in Loso Hall. Tickets are $8 general and $6 for students and seniors. A special performance will also be given Saturday, August 23 at 6 p.m. at City Hall during the Crossing the Blues La Grande Summer Festival.

We're back from the Aquaman premiere at the RadCon 5 Fan Film Festival, and we had a great time. Alex Mitzenberg (The Flash) joined Chuck and Jon for the festival, where we got the chance to hang out with fellow fans and meet other filmmakers. One highlight (of many!) was getting to meet Trey Stokes, who has not only worked on such classics as The Abyss and Starship Troopers, but was the Grand Prize Winner for the 2004 National 48 Hour Film Challenge. Trey also happens to be behind a little series of internet shorts known as Pink Five. Click here to visit Trey's site and view some of his shorts.

Aquaman Goes to RadCon

We're proud to announce that we have been invited to RadCon 5, a sci-fi convention being held this Fri-Sat-Sun at the Red Lion Inn in Pasco, Washington. Aquaman, the fan film written and directed by VVS's own Chuck Peters, is an official selection of the RadCon Film Festival.
Aquaman will screen and have a Q+A session Saturday in the Bronze Room at 3 PM. Chuck and Jon have also been invited to speak at two of the Saturday's panels: "Fan Films, Fan Fiction - What are the Ethics Questions?" (Sage Room 11am-12pm) and "What to Do Before 'Action'" (Sage Room 1pm-2pm).
We'll be giving away 10 copies of the Aquaman DVD at the show, complete with a beautifully painted cover by Lucas Cruz and a director/producer commentary track, so we hope to see you there!

Grey Wolf Video

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife recently brought in some footage of an endangered Grey Wolf in the Eagle Cap Wilderness, between Medical Springs and Wallowa.
Valley Video Services has assisted the ODFW in pulling several stills from the video and spreading the video to several news sources, including The Oregonian and NW Cable News. The full-size Quicktime movie can be viewed HERE.

Aquaman in the Observer

Aquaman, the fan film written and directed by VVS's own Chuck Peters, has gotten another piece of great press in the La Grande Observer. The article dives into the post-production and reaction to our homage to the classic DC Comics hero. Our First Business Grant!

It's a modest start, but Valley Video Services has received our first business grant from the La Grande Downtown Development Association. Our $200 micro-grant is for improvements to the lighting on our storefront to make our signage more visible and improve security. Sound Booth Up and Running!

Our very own sound booth is now up and runnng -- drop by our office and check it out. The acoustics are amazing and we've already used it on several projects with great results. Many thanks to Travis Jordan of Sound Wise for his advise and design (and a great vocal mic!). Thanks also to Jon Franklin for his hours and hours of hard work on the construction, and for his patience with his 'assistant' -- Me!
